I came to houses the long way round — first through writing about them, then through restoring my own, a draughty Georgian house that needed lots of love.
In the process, I fell for the way old buildings hold a story, and for wrangling through the riddle of making them work for the way we live now.
My non-negotiables?
I won't ever strip the soul out of a period home to chase a trend. And I won't take on a project I don't believe we can do beautifully, the truest compliment I can pay your home.
I believe a room should work well for you before we think about how it impresses, and that the difference between a house that photographs well and a home you never want to leave is always found in the small details.
